Summary

This strange and lovely parable, written as much for adults as for children, and beautifully illustrated by the author, has become a classic of our time。

The narrator, an air pilot, tells how, having made a forced landing in the Sahara Desert, he meets the little prince。 The wise and enchanting stories the prince tells about the planet where he lives with three volcanoes and a haught flower, about the other planets and their rulers, and about his fight with the bad seeds, make him an entrancing, unforgettable character。

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a novelist and professional air pilot。 He wrote The Little Prince a year before his death in 1944。

Written from a child’s perspective wandering through stars and planets then eventually landing on a desert with a pilot, a classic— and nostalgic— book for any age lessoning to stay curious, imaginative, and follow your dreams。

There is something beautiful about this book。 It carries the essence of childhood。 I have no words for this book。 It evokes something that I cannot describe。

100 Books to Read in a Lifetime。This was a cute little book。 The story of The Little Prince who travelede form the stars to explore all the other "planets," and the Narrator that he met when he came to Earth。 The Narrator learned quite a bit from The Little Prince。 The ending was beautiful and a lot of meanings could be taken from how it ended and what was said。 I will never look at the stars the same way。 So glad that I took the short time to read this one。This is Book #74 on the List 100 Books to Read in a Lifetime。This was a cute little book。 The story of The Little Prince who travelede form the stars to explore all the other "planets," and the Narrator that he met when he came to Earth。 The Narrator learned quite a bit from The Little Prince。 The ending was beautiful and a lot of meanings could be taken from how it ended and what was said。 I will never look at the stars the same way。 So glad that I took the short time to read this one。This is Book #74 on the List 。。。more

At first I just wanted to read this because all my friends said it was great, but then it turns out to be a sweet journey into my childhood。 Even though I haven't read this book when I was a child, it makes me remember things I did not live, if you understand what I meant。 But looking at the bigger picture, this history was truly adorable, everyone should read it to never forget that we once was a child too。 At first I just wanted to read this because all my friends said it was great, but then it turns out to be a sweet journey into my childhood。 Even though I haven't read this book when I was a child, it makes me remember things I did not live, if you understand what I meant。 But looking at the bigger picture, this history was truly adorable, everyone should read it to never forget that we once was a child too。 。。。more

highlighting his resentment towards their decision to preclude him from pursuing a career in drawing and suggestions over looking at more ‘lucrative’ options。 As he is stranded in the Sahara Desert with his plane crashed, he is met with the little prince who demands that he draw him a sheep。 The author becomes intrigued as he learns of the little prince home - another planet。 The hallmark of the protagonist created by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is his undying curiosity。 Once the prince has a question, it must be answered。 It is a gentle reminder to adult readers what they have lost。 As children, we have questions about small things and things that are worldly。 We constantly ask our parents why things must be a certain way。 As adults, most of us become less inquisitive, ask fewer questions and become preoccupied with trying to find solutions。 The prince’s message seems clear - it is perhaps those who question things that are truly gifted。 The most honest expression of the prince’s curiosity is painted when he talks about baobabs。 He meticulously details to the author why the baobabs must be destroyed as soon as one catches a glimpse of a single baobab growing for, they are harmful。 Through the baobabs, the author conveys the relevance of attention to detail in the bounties of nature and to care for those who may not be able to do so for themselves。The story continues to explore complex themes through seemingly simple objects。 The prince’s annoyance at the author for not being inquisitive about the role of thorns on flowers makes the reader ponder over their ignorance。 It does an incredible job at making the adult readers question the purpose of much of what they pursue in their lives are things they see as ‘matters of consequence’, consequential to their existence。 Often while reading, one often stops to wonder what is it that truly matters and whether what we think really matters makes us happy indeed。The story develops through expeditions of the prince from one planet to another, his encounters with a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a businessman, a lamplighter and a geographer before his ultimate landing on planet earth。 The little prince, with his innate critical thinking puts each person he meets on spot。 He asks them tough questions, highlighting to them and to the readers the absurdity in pursuing much of what humans regard valuable – power, money, vanity。As the little prince finally lands on planet earth, he learns invaluable lessons。 It is perhaps here in the story that the author shows the ultimate range of human emotions。 At one point, the prince becomes disillusioned seeing the hundreds of roses on planet earth。 He recounts how he had only one on his planet, concluding that his flower might not be as special as he thought。 However, through his conversations with the fox and his journey of taming him, the prince realizes that while there are going to thousands of flowers, it is only his flower that he loves, that he shelters and waters, the one he has spent an immeasurable amount of time caring for。 And it is that what makes his flower so special。 It highlights important aspects of human thinking - our proclivity to compare what we have with others and our susceptibility to overlook uniqueness in our lives and relationships。 The little prince remains unimpressed with his encounters with the merchant and the railway switchman。 Once again, he sees the absurdity in things humans are pursuing。 The climax of the story is set off as the author brings to light his failure to fix his plane on the eight day from the crash。 He can no longer go on without water。 The author and his little man now begin their journey to find a well in the desert。 It is during this journey that we see how deeply the author has come to admire and love the little prince。 He has become his single source of laughter, his happiness。 The conversations reveal the true depth of their friendship to the reader。 This is where the rubber meets the road。 It is revealed to the author that the prince must be bitten by the snake in order to ensure his departure to his planet。 It fills the reader with a sense of sorrow and helplessness。 It is at this point that the adult readers experience a feeling of loss so monumental, it transcends everything。 One of most remarkable things about The Little Prince is how it unpacks so many complex human emotions as it takes the reader on a completely unexpected journey。 While the beginning of the book seems dry, it picks up as we see the prince’s adventures on various planets。 It ends up being incredibly powerful for its ability to incite emotions the reader doesn’t quite anticipate at the outset。 The message is loud and clear - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wishes for us to stop and look around, question the mundanity and absurdity of what we do, perhaps take a break to admire things of beauty, bring back our child-like curiosity and look for our own little prince someday。 。。。more
